I am now able to offer private tuition in lutherie.
If you want to make a guitar with me, or learn repair, we can arrange a regular session. Tools are provided, although I can help you set up your own if preferred. Materials can be purchased from my own stock. Between sessions your project can be stored in my climate controlled workshop.
If you are already making guitars we can arrange a one off tutorial to address a specific topic. You may want to improve your French polishing, learn how to use hide glue, or have some other query. Contact me and we'll work out something suitable.
Regular sessions will be one on one in my Somerset workshop. You will be in my daily workspace, and will see my own work at its various stages. As you become more proficient I may work alongside you while you tackle a task you feel confident with, offering help as needed.
For certain structured tutorials, such as French polishing, I may be able to accomodate two people.
My teaching rate is £14/hr for regular sessions. Full day tutorials by arrangement. I recommend a minimum of two hours per session. Otherwise you'll hardly get started before it's time to pack up. If finances are tight a longer session, less often, will be more useful to you than a shorter one every week. Regular sessions can be daytime or evenings during the week. One off tutorials may occassionally be arranged for a weekend.
My workshop is a comfortable, pleasant space in which to work. The atmosphere will be fairly informal and I'll supply as much tea as you want.
